What we collect

On your device (we never see this)

All of the following is stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB and Chrome's storage APIs. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly use an AI feature:

• YouTube videos and web articles you save
• Transcripts, article text, and page metadata
• AI-generated summaries, highlights, and takeaways
• Your chat conversations with the AI assistant
• Folders and organizational structure
• Your preferences and settings

Uninstalling the extension or clearing browser data will permanently delete all of this. Use Settings → Export JSON to back up before you do.

On our server (the minimum we need)

To enforce the free-tier AI limit, we keep a small amount of data on our backend:

• Anonymous install ID — a random identifier, not linked to you personally
• Usage count — how many AI tokens you've used this month
• App version — so we know what's compatible

That's it. No email, no name, no account.

Email (only if you give it to us)

If you sign up for our waitlist or mailing list on this website, we store the email address you provide. We use it only to send you product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time, and we'll delete it on request.

Where your data lives

What we do NOT collect

We want to be crystal clear about this:

• No account required — you never need to sign up, log in, or create a profile
• No cloud sync — your library doesn't upload to any server
• No browsing history — we only know about pages you explicitly save
• No third-party tracking — no Google Analytics, no pixels, no fingerprinting. Anonymous, minimal usage telemetry may be collected to improve the extension and can be fully disabled in Settings
• No selling data — we don't sell, share, or monetize your information

When you use AI features

Nugget.fyi's AI features (summaries, highlights, chat) are powered by Google's Gemini API. When you trigger an AI action, here's what happens:

1. The relevant content (transcript or article text, your chat message) is sent from your browser to our backend server.
2. Our server forwards it to Google Gemini, receives the response, and sends it back to you.
3. We do not store the content of your request or the AI response on our server. We only log the token count for quota enforcement.

We use an app-managed API key — you don't need to provide your own. Google's Gemini API terms apply to AI processing.

Chrome extension permissions

Chrome will ask you to approve some permissions when you install. Here's exactly what each one does and why we need it:

Data security

• Your library data lives in Chrome's sandboxed extension storage — other extensions and websites cannot access it
• All network communication uses HTTPS encryption
• If you export your vault, the JSON file is unencrypted — treat it like any other personal file

Your data, your controls

• View everything — open the dashboard to see every item you've saved
• Export anytime — Settings → Export JSON downloads your entire library
• Delete selectively — remove individual items from the dashboard
• Delete everything — uninstall the extension or clear browser data
• Delete your server record — email us and we'll wipe your anonymous install ID and usage history

Children's privacy

Nugget.fyi is not designed for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll notify you through the extension. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
